Barrier Maintenance Airmen Replaces Nylon Tape
The nylon tape in an aircraft arresting system has a shelf life of four years once installed. Every six months, a portion is cropped to remove any damaged sections exposed to the elements, ensuring the tape maintains its integrity and performance during an engagement with an aircraft.
UV light can damage nylon tapes, so they must be protected from direct sunlight. All spare tapes should be stored indoors to prevent this.
